This is a diatribe--a rant, a complaint, a bitter denunciation--against wordpress.com, the extremely greedy and deceptively friendly blog site that's the only blogging software web sites hosted on fatcow.com are allowed to use.

So this, my first attempt at blogging, has to take this sadly negative coloring.

Speaking of coloroing!   I CAN'T change the appearance of the silly blog I tried to set up on wordpress.  Furthermore, although wordpress comes on with 'free' domain names and the like, you're pretty much stuck with paying $26/year for a minimal, barely customizable, and mysteriously complex blog site.

So anyway, I'm tired of web desperadoes holding my up.  From ow on I use free, open source software for every purpose.

Why I'm Doing This

This begins as a test of setting up blogging here, to be linked from a website I've constructed for
some people on Long Island.  So far, this doesn't look very difficult--most of my users will have
no trouble setting up their own blogs; I'll add links.
